Unity Tour 2007 recap [Aug. 9th, 2007|02:34 am]

So Monday night was Unity Tour 2007.  My fifth time seeing my all time favorite band 311.  It was just my brother and me this time, still fun nonetheless...

A band called Dirty Heads was the first opening band.  They reminded me a lot of the Beastie Boys, and overall I enjoyed their set.

Then the rain came...

It rained for about 20 minutes, absolutely poured, but we toughed it out and before long the tarps were off and out came Matisyahu.

I was familiar with who Matisyahu was but never really listened to them. WOAH!!! Freakin sa-weeeeet.  Somethin about a Hasidic Jewish person doing reggae rap that is just incredibly awesome.  Plus he'd start doing Jewish dances during instrumental breaks... I loved how you could just tell he enjoyed himself the entire night.  Lots of energy from the band and the crowd!

311 had to do a shortened setlist unfortunately due to the noise laws in Indianapolis and the fact there was a rain delay, but still it was all positive vibes and everyone was getting into every song,  The setlist was as follows.

Tribal Drum Intro
Hive
Homebrew
Prisoner
Champagne
Creatures (For a While)
Running
Paradise
Stealing Happy Hours
Come Original
Applied Science
Purpose
Nix Hex
Beautiful Disaster
Borders
Large in the Margin
Amber
Visit
Down

ENCORE
Who's got the Herb
Freak Out
Beyond the Gray Sky
Fuck the Bullshit

Next year should be a great year in 311 world.... should be a new album and another unbelievable tour!

So tomorrow, our beloved founder, teh Chief Inspector Robert Stephens himself is going to be in Indianapolis, and I do believe one of his stops is the Broad Ripple Xerox location... that should be mucho awesome to actually meet the guy who started Geek Squad!

Also 311 tomorrow at The White River Lawns!!! Gotta love that!

I signed up to work the Geek Squad booth at Gen-Con this year... just from 1-4pm on a Sunday, but I got a free pass out of it so that was pretty awesome.  I'm not 100 percent sure what the Geek Squad booth is going to have, but from the sketches I saw a game show similar to Who wants to be a millionaire, as well as some sweet PC gaming stations!

What's up in JMO land [Jun. 28th, 2007|01:02 am]
Myspace and Facebook are like the mean posse that always picks on poor livejournal, I never get around to using it... so I felt I should, so it doesn't get lonely...

First off, the biggest story with me is that I have been promoted within the ranks of the Geek Squad.  I am no longer "Counter-Intelligence Agent", I'm now a "Field Agent".  While I didn't get the Double Agent position (the people who drive the sweet beetles around and go to your house), I did get selected as the newest agent in "Project Xerox".  Essentially, I will be leaving Best Buy and moving inside of FedEx Kinko locations throughout Indianapolis.  Right now it's a test market, so I'm really going to be involved with laying down the foundation for a new chapter in the Geek Squad.  I'm excited!

I'm going to need a more reliable car than the Lumina... I'm looking at a 2000 Impala.  More on this as it develops :P

More later... it's bed time for JMO.

Geek Squad just loves the puns... [May. 26th, 2007|12:07 am]
[music |Danzig: Mother]

One of our Double Agents is leaving for Seattle.

This means that a Double Agent position has opened up... three actually, two of them in Indianapolis, one in Kokomo

The Double Agents drive the awesome Beetles and get the sweet action badges... and also make about 2x the rate for your typical Counter-Intelligence Agent

I have applied for said Double Agent opening... and I so very hope I get it.

The best part about being in a band... [Apr. 20th, 2007|11:24 pm]
[music |Primus: John the Fisherman]

...is when you get endorsements!  Random Harvest got their first sponsor via our demo tape to Radio Radio.  Sponsors = money to buy crap!

I always did want a Fender :)

The history of the Pop Machene, by Jason O'Conner [Apr. 14th, 2007|11:42 pm]
Vending machines... for years they have aided in providing refreshing beverages or delicious snacks to folks all over the world, and hey, could it be any simpler?  You put in the desired amount of money for the product you are wishing to purchase, press a button and bam! you've got yourself a coke or apple turnover.

However, there is a darker side to this vending machine industry, one that is so heinous, so... so unspeakably evil, that only a graphic novel (minus the novel part) will suffice.

First a little backstory.

As stated in previous posts, I happen to have a very good friend by the name of Max McCandless.  I've known Max since seventh grade and we've pretty much been best friends ever since.  I hang out over at Max's house quite often.  He lives in an apartment on the west side of town.  In this division there just so happens to be a pop machine.  For a mere 60 cents, one can enjoy a coca-cola classic or mountain dew.

However, one day... we come to find THIS! posted onto the machine

According to this, we have learned that "The pop machene do not take pennies".  Whew, a sigh of relief on my part.  I'm glad I was informed of the dangers associated with using said currency on this particular apparatus.

However, even though I was able to easily decipher the message, I asked myself "Jason... what about those who may not be as quick on their feet with piecing together this puzzle?"  In all my helpfulness I made a sign that I feel aids the customer a little better...

Clearly, this sign does a much better job of getting the point across.  It lets the customer know a few additional things.

1.) It is a sentence
2.) Machine vs. Machene
3.) There are actually rules for when to use lower vs. upper case letters

Feeling a deserved sense of satisfaction, I proceeded to purchase a refreshing cola from the pop machine.  Feeling the battle had been won, Max and I returned to his house to probably do nothing.

BUT WAIT!

A few days later...

As you can see... No. Pop Machene Not. Take Pennies  What could this mean?  Is it some sort of code?  Is there a higher power trying to tell me something?  I'll keep you informed as to future happenings.... for now, I can only hope and pray for answers....
